NEW STOWE WINDSHELL

Anyone who has spent any time in Squamish, just north of Arc’teryx HQ in Canada, understands why the place name, in the indigenous language of the Skwxwú7mesh Nation, means “mother of the winds.” It’s mother-trucking windy. Even on the loveliest day, you want a stashable Windshell for when the polar air gets suddenly funnelled up the fjord. Taking inspiration from the legendary Squamish Hoody Windshell, the new Stowe offers a tighter silhouette with a kangaroo pocket, and packs a game-changing punch – it’s made entirely from reclaimed Squamish Hoody fabric. Light, wind resistant, and offering exceptional abrasion resistance for its weight, the Stowe boasts an extra dash of eco-genius—it has been repurposed out of end-of-the-roll fabric—creating a limited edition offering, in unicorn colour-blocks, out of what once would have been waste.

RECLAIMED FROM RAW MATERIALS

The new Stowe Windshell is designed specifically for mild but shifting conditions. And for the planet.

Arc’teryx embraces the Ellen MacArthur Foundation circularity principles outlined in “Make Fashion Circular”: “We design product to be used more, made to be made again, and made from safe and renewable materials.” The new Stowe Windshell is one of the first circularity-forward offerings to be released under the new ReBird™ program. ReBird™ nests the various efforts underway at Arc’teryx to shape the take-make-waste economy into a loop of endless possibilities.

The Stowe is the result of a creative collaboration with our partner facility at Youngone (CEPZ) LTD in Bangladesh. The challenge was to incorporate end-of-roll fabric from the legendary Squamish Hoody Windshell, into a unique ReBird™ offering. Youngone (CEPZ) has been crafting Arc’teryx product since 2011, and have also taken a proud role in rewilding the region where they are based, planting over 2 million trees on 2500 acres in Bangladesh, reducing flooding in neighbouring villages and creating wildlife habitat. In the Stowe Windshell, designers, makers and users align in purpose, to contribute to the gathering momentum for a global shift towards circularity.

PERFORMANCE WITHOUT COMPROMISE

Designed with a minimalist vibe to suit a trail runner’s movements, or to allow for light protection while cragging or patio-chilling, the Stowe is an upstyled performance hoody. Perfect for days when winds or misty weather warrant lightweight, packable protection. True to its name, and at under 150 grams, the Stowe is lighter than your iPhone, and stashes easily in a pack or tote. The Stowe’s breathable fabric blocks breezes and sheds light moisture, a kangaroo pocket holds phone and wallet, and the deep front zip makes pulling it on and off easy.

REBIRD™ POUCH AND TOTE

IN LIEU OF DUMP AND DESTROY, CHOOSE DECONSTRUCT AND REDEPLOY

When you carefully pick apart a well-loved Arc’teryx jacket, you find a lot more than a trove of stories, scuff-marks, adventures and misadventures. You find the potential for something entirely new. ARC’One is full of post-consumer materials, awaiting redeployment.

ARC’One is not just the Canadian manufacturing facility for Arc’teryx, the New Westminster-based operation where approximately 5% of the Arc’teryx product is made. ARC’One also houses a treasure hoard for upcyclers, the motherlode of material, fondly known as “box city”, a temporary resting place for well-loved gear that has been deemed beyond repair by our skilful warranty and repair team. But just because it’s worn past the point of being stitched or patched back to bombproof performance, it is not waste. The materials in Arc’teryx jackets are high value, built to last. And so, the pieces are held in trust for a future iteration.

Not only can the pieces inform future designs—as designers review for common wear points so they can design out vulnerabilities in future garments—they are getting new identities.

One warrantied GORE-TEX jacket deconstructed and re-imagined by Arc’teryx engineers produces two upcycled pouches and one tote. That’s circularity in action.

THINK MORE CIRCULAR: TRANSFORM DEAD ENDS INTO NEW POSSIBILITIES

Arc’teryx embraces the Ellen MacArthur Foundation circularity principles outlined in “Make Fashion Circular”: “We design product to be used more, made to be made again, and made from safe and renewable materials.”

The Upcycled Pouches and Totes are the first circularity-forward offerings entirely upcycled from post-consumer materials to be released under the new ReBird™ program. ReBird™ nests the various efforts underway at Arc’teryx to shape the take-make-waste economy into a loop of endless possibilities. A key ReBird™ approach is to build from materials saved from waste, so that we all might begin to reorient our attitude to waste and disposability and see what fertile ground the apparent end-of-life of a garment is. When worn-beyond-optimum-function gear is reimagined, it gains new life as a series of unique custom offerings, starting here.

CARRY YOUR NECESSITIES, NOT YOUR GUILT

The sleek, weather resistant ReBird™ tote, is made from reclaimed fabric, at ARC’One. Upcycled from post-consumer materials, from a warrantied GORE-TEX jacket, supplemented where needed with brand new end-of-the-roll excess fabric, each tote is one-of-a-kind, generated from the unique material available to its creator. This everyday urban carry-all, with reinforced straps, thoughtful features and exceptional Arc’teryx craftsmanship, is a tote sized for a day’s necessities, or as carry-on for travellers, primed and ready for a new lifetime worth of stories and adventures.

A STASH FOR THE ESSENTIALS MADE WITH SALVAGE STYLE

Designed to stash essentials and easy to grab items, and made in Canada, the ReBird™ pouch is a new beginning for a well-loved jacket. A big impact in a small package.
