The Story of Eric Hjorleifson, The Skier's Skier
NORTH VANCOUVER, Canada, October 2, 2018 – On October 17th, 2018 in Boulder, Co, Matchstick Productions (MSP) and Arc’teryx will premiere the film HOJI.
Eric Hjorleifson has spent the better part of twenty years skiing in films, designing equipment and exploring the backcountry around the world. All these years of hard work have culminated in one thing he’s seemingly been avoiding; the spotlight and finally his own ski documentary.
To celebrate this, Arc’teryx is releasing a series of stories that get behind the man and myth to reveal the real Hoji, a man who lets his skiing speak for itself. He doesn’t stand on the bar and shout about his accolades. He skis for brands that give him 100% creative control over the equipment that he designs and uses. He chases storms and ditches his cell phone for weeks at a time. His exploits are rarely flaunted on social media. In spite of all of this – or maybe because of it – he is a hero to legions of skiers across the globe.
“He’s one of those people who just truly wants everyone on the trip to succeed. So he’s going to do whatever it takes in his own power to help everyone else. It’s an incredibly unselfish way of approaching a trip,” says Michelle Parker, Arc’teryx Athlete.
He’s also a visionary problem solver and has worked on designs for both boots and apparel.
“I have had the privilege of working with many extremely talented athletes who are sources of invaluable insight and feedback on the gear they use, but Hoji stands out,” says Sarah Wallace, Arc’teryx Design Manger. “His extraordinarily elevated level of performance, as well as just sheer time and mileage spent in the gear means that his perspective on all things product related is truly unique. He also has a brilliant and creative mind that allows him to ideate unusual and inventive solutions to all manner of problems. We’re very fortunate to have his input, and our products would simply not be the same without his contributions.”
Directed by Scott Gaffney and featuring, Eric Hjorleifson, Chris Rubens, James Heim, Michelle Parker, Mark Abma, Markus Eder and more; the HOJI film tour will premiere in Boulder, CO on October 17th before traveling around the world.
