Jon Hoerauf was literally inspired to be a part of the outdoor apparel industry by the satisfaction he got in finding the right fit.
During his second year of university, Jon took a part-time job at a sporting goods store. He was studying physiology with the intent of going on to medical school. But he found that he really enjoyed applying the theory he was learning to help fit people into the right gear. When he finished his degree, the store offered Jon a job as an assistant merchant buyer, and he never looked back.
Sixteen years on, in 2012, Jon joined Arc’teryx as VP, Global Commercial, and he quickly helped move the company forward. More than a decade at The North Face had cemented his passion for the industry and the outdoors. But he admits it’s Arc’teryx that aligns perfectly with his personal and professional goals. During his time as VP, Jon helped push Arc’teryx forward, making it a world-class, global commercial organization that offers its core consumers a consistent, enriched brand experience around the world. In 2016, Jon stepped into the role of president and general manager leading the company through unprecedented global growth and corporate milestones. He currently also serves as the President, Apparel for Amer Sports.
A Michigan native, Jon grew up just a short drive from the Canadian border. He crossed it all winter long playing hockey against teams in both countries. And he still plays regularly.
Jon earned his bachelor of science degree from Michigan State University. He met his wife, Star, a Vancouver native, while working at The North Face. Not wanting a corporate lifestyle to accompany his new corporate role, they bought a four-acre hobby farm on Bowen Island when the family relocated to Vancouver from the U.S. They live there with their three children, and Jon feels every minute of his commute (which is under an hour) is well worth the balance it brings.
