Company supports largest-ever United Nations-backed climate advocacy statement
NORTH VANCOUVER, British Columbia, May 19, 2020 - Arc’teryx Equipment, the global design company specializing in technical high-perfomance apparel, is calling on governments and policy-makers to rebuild the economy in a sustainable manner by prioritizing recovery funding towards businesses who are working to mitigate the long-term impacts of climate change.
In a statement jointly issued by the Science Based Targets Initiative, the UN Global Compact and the We Mean Business coalition, Arc’teryx joins 155 major multinationals with a US $2.4 trillion market cap, and five million employees - to call for policy that pairs recovery with ambitious climate action.
“Arc’teryx believes that mid- and long-term economic success requires bold action on climate change – both by companies and by governments,” says Jon Hoerauf, President Arc’teryx Equipment. “We are proud to have committed Arc’teryx to ambitious Science-Based Targets to reduce our greenhouse-gas emissions . At this time of crisis, we call on governments at all levels to make smart and aggressive climate action part of both their recovery plans and of the public investments that can reshape and rebuild an economy to deliver long-term prosperity.”
Arc’teryx recently committed to reduce its greenhouse gas emissions by 65% in intensity by 2030. The company is one of just a handful of outdoor brands to have their targets approved by the Science Based Targets Initiative, a partnership between UN Global Compact, the World Resources Institute, CDP and the World Wide Fund for Nature that helps companies take the action needed to keep global temperature increase below 2°C.
With a goal of building a sustainable, low emissions mode of operations, Arc’teryx is investing in lower impact materials for products, renewable energy, energy efficiency programs, and growing its participation in the circular economy through Arc’teryx Used Gear.
Arc’teryx is a founding signatory of the UN Fashion Industry Charter for Climate Action, a member of the Outdoor Industry Association’s Climate Action Corps, and advocates for climate-friendly policy at a local, national and global level.
